The recycling program for Huntsville City and Madison County is administered by The Solid Waste Disposal Authority and operated by Allied Waste (formerly BFI).
Every week, Allied Waste picks up curbside recyclables from over 85,000 city and county households. The recyclables are taken to the Allied Waste Recyclery which is located at 1004 A Cleaner Way, Huntsville. For more information on the Allied Waste Recyclery, call 256-830-2467.

How To Get a Recycling Bin

Huntsville City residents: please call 256-830-BINS (2467).
Madison County and all others who live outside Huntsville: please call 256-532-1513.

Drop off locations accept the same products as the curbside program, except for batteries and motor oil. These waste products may be dropped off on the first Saturday morning (8:00 am to noon) of each month at the Handle With Care facility at the SWDA Landfill, located at 4100 Leeman Ferry Road.

Used Motor Oil

Engine Oil used in vehicles and lawnmowers.
PLEASE: Put used oil in a CLEAN, CLEAR, PLASTIC container (such as a milk jug or a soft drink bottle) and fasten the lid securely. Put the container NEXT to your recycle bin. If the oil is not in a clear plastic container, it will not be picked up. |

You may recycle glass food and beverage bottles by taking them to Allied Waste's Recyclery at 1004 A Cleaner Way, Huntsville (located behind the Animal Control Building on Triana Blvd.). Specially marked dumpsters are provided for glass with access available 24 hours a day. For more information, call 256-830-2467.

Phonebooks
The Solid Waste Disposal Authority holds an annual phonebook recycling program each January in which all public and private schools, in the city and county, can compete for cash prizes.. |
|
Appliances
Appliances can be taken to the landfill for recycling. Charges do apply.
Metal
Ash from the waste-to-energy facility is taken to the landfill. Before the ash is buried, ferrous and non-ferrous metals are removed from the ash and recycled. |
